The match before Christmas: Cittadella host the new kids on the block, Sudtirol, who are facing the Granata for the first time in Serie B play. Sudtirol were promoted last season after an impressive 90 point season, finishing in 1st place above Cittadella-rivals Padova.
After early hiccups from the team from Bolzano, Sudtirol have climbed from 20th to the playoff zone entering the midway point of the season. A large part of that is thanks to the appointment of Pierpaolo Bisoli, who has only lost once out of his 14 games so far with Sudtirol. Those results is why the Tirolesi have put themselves in an incredible place in their first season in the league.
On the other side, Cittadella had hoped for a season similar to their opponents. Walking in unfamiliar territory, Cittadella sit in 16th place as Christmas approaches, and can fall further down the table if they can’t pick up a result on Sunday. Injuries, problems with tactics, and lack of attacking quality has hindered the Granata‘s abilities this season, and are now facing a possibly scary relegation fight.
Before the world has their eyes on the final in Qatar, we are focusing on the match in Veneto as for the first time in history, Cittadella and Sudtirol face off in Serie B. Cittadella have their backs against the wall as pressure on Edoardo Gorini is building. For Sudtriol, they are hoping to continue their flying first half of the season in their historic Serie B campaign.
