Kongouli’s stunner puts Cittadella Women in second place

In great form going into the match, Cittadella looked to find the opening goal, but the Apulia Trani defense held firm in the first half, denying Jonna Dahlberg a volley from outside the eighteen yard box.
The hosts went down to 10 players just minutes into the second half, giving the Granata a golden chance to take the lead. Cittadella looked to go ahead off a corner kick minutes after, and they nearly got it from Claudia Saggione’s re-directed shot, but the effort went just wide of the post.
Up a player for majority of the second half, Cittadella found their goal in the 78th minute through no-one other than Sofia Kongouli. Elena Nicole’s pass outside found Cittadella’s top scorer, who side-footed home the go-ahead goal with very few minutes left to play. The striker now has 12 goals in the league with 18 appearances.
Salvatore Colantuono’s side get the job done in the south, as they move up to 2nd place in Serie B Femminile. The Granata currently hold a one point lead in second place ahead of Napoli Femminile, while still three points behind league leaders Lazio.
Eleven games remain for Cittadella Women in the league, as they dream of promotion to Serie A Femminile. The team is back at home next weekend against Trento Femminile.
