Ambrosi and Dahlberg give Cittadella Women a comfortable win over Trento.
On March 12, 2023 by Jake IovineCittadella Women continue to win as they earned a 2-0 victory at home against Trento Femminile, keeping the Granata in 2nd place.
Caterina Ambrosi scored her second goal in her last three games right before halftime, while Jonna Dahlberg made sure of the three points in the second half.
Cittadella showed their strength early on, as they looked to make it five wins in a row. Claudia Saggion’s early effort on goal sailed just wide of the post. Top scorer Sofia Kongouli almost had the breakthrough from a quick corner, but her shot didn’t have enough power to test Trento keeper Chiara Vazolgher.
The breakthrough finally came right before halftime. Defender Caterina Ambrosi had an easy header as the ball floated towards the back post. Cittadella has been dominant when leading at halftime, finishing games 12-1-0 when leading at the interval.
The hosts continued to hammer their opponents at the start of the half. Caterina Ferin almost got her 10th goal of the season, following a clever flick by Jonna Dahlberg, Ferin’s shot was hit just a little too high of the goal.
Later in the second half, Dahlberg scored one of the goals of the season to make it 2-0 for Cittadella. An “olimpico” goal off the corner kick caught Vazolgher by surprise, as Dahlberg’s cross fired into the net from the set piece.
It’s a fifth straight win for Salvatore Colantuono’s side, who keep their position in 2nd place following another round in Serie B Femminile. Nine games remain for Cittadella to continue pushing for a historical Serie A Femminile promotion.
