Dahlberg’s free kick gives Cittadella Women a massive three points.

Jonna Dahlberg’s stunning free kick was the only goal in the match as Cittadella Women hold on for another three points against Hellas Verona.

The Granata have now won seven games in a row, keeping pressure on first place Lazio, who play Cittadella in three weeks. Eight more games remain for Salvatore Colantuono’s to close out what has been a remarkable campaign.

Cittadella’s only goal of the game came in the 11th minute, after Jonna Dahlberg’s curling free kick rattled the back of the net, giving Cittadella the lead. It’s once again another goal-of-the-week candidate from the Granata as the free kick gave them the advantage this afternoon.

The hosts certainly had to dig deep for this win, as Hellas Verona pushed late on for an equalizing goal. Cittadella keeper Ilaria Toniolo made the game winning save late into stoppage time, parrying away a looping shot to preserve the lead.

Though it was far from comfortable, Cittadella get the job done at home, and remain in 2nd place for another week. They’ll now face Genoa next Sunday, followed by a crucial match against league leaders Lazio.
