Cittadella Women look to seal 3rd place in exceptional season.
On May 23, 2023 by Jake IovineDespite being eliminated from promotion contention following their wild 2-2 draw against Napoli Femminile on Sunday, Cittadella Women still have 3rd place to play for on the final day of the season.
It’s been a tremendous campaign from Salvatore Colantuono’s side this season, pushing the likes of Napoli and Lazio all the way to the finish line in a crazy race for promotion. Unfortunately, the Granata will come up short, being mathematically eliminated from getting at least 2nd place.
With 67 points taken from 29 games, Cittadella will host Sassari Torres on the final day of the season in Tombolo, only needing a draw to clinch 3rd place in the league. A loss and a Ternana Women win against San Marino Academy will see Le Fere jump into 3rd on tiebreaker.
Colantuono will be without starting goalkeeper Ilaria Toniolo on Sunday, who received a straight red card for protesting Napoli’s equalizer. Laura Peruzzo will also miss the match for yellow card accumulation.
Regardless of the outcome, it has been an exceptional season from the Granata, who will now be looking to close out the season with a win and a podium finish.
