Cittadella travel to Marche to face Ascoli on Boxing Day, which will be the last match of the 2023 calendar year for both sides.
Currently on a seven game unbeaten streak, Edoardo Gorini’s side can make history with a victory in Ascoli on Tuesday. Three points for Cittadella would see the club achieve its best ever point total after 19 games in Serie B. The Granata enter Boxing Day in 4th place having beaten Spezia on the weekend.
On the other side, Ascoli is looking to end 2023 on a high note after struggling in recent weeks. Fabrizio Castori’s side has tallied only four points in the last eight games, sliding all the way down into 18th in the league. Ascoli has failed to beat Cittadella in the last four meetings while also failing to score a single goal.
The last meeting between the two clubs at the Stadio Cino e Lillo Del Duca was a heated affair. A total of three red cards were shown to the players, while then-Ascoli coach Cristian Bucchi and Cittadella sporting director Stefano Marchetti were also given red cards for a confrontation at halftime.
Forward Pedro Mendes has been involved in 52% of Ascoli’s goals scored this season, bagging 7 goals and 2 assists in his second season at the club. Cittadella top scorer Filippo Pittarello scored a brace coming off the bench last weekend, getting his goal tally up to four this season.
Both teams will be looking to end the year strong with a win. Tuesday’s match will conclude the ‘gironi di andata’ in Serie B, marking the halfway point in the season.
