Masciangelo becomes first signing of the summer for Cittadella
On June 7, 2024 by Jake IovineCittadella has announced the signing of winger Edoardo Masciangelo from Benevento, becoming the first new arrival of the offseason.
The winger will join the Granata on a free transfer and on a three-year contract, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
“Masciangelo is a player with experience and quality,” Cittadella sporting director Stefano Marchetti said to PadovaOggi. “He had several options, but when he spoke to me he was ready for Cittadella in three seconds.”
Masciangelo played 30 games last season for Benevento in all competitions, helping the Campania-based club finish 3rd in Serie C. The 27-year-old has played in four different Serie B seasons with the likes of Pescara, Palermo and Benevento.
Throughout his time in Serie B, Masciangelo has frequently played on the left wing, both as a fullback and a winger. With Federico Giraudo’s loan expiring at the end of this month, Masciangelo could possibly be the replacement in the backline for Edoardo Gorini’s side. The Granata have also been closing on the singing of midfielder Simone Tronchin from Vicenza, who could be announced soon.
“His desire and enthusiasm, as well as his technical skills is what I like about Masciangelo,” Marchetti said. “He’ll be able to give us a great hand because he’s a very offensive and flexible player, he can play both as a 5 and 4. I think he is an important signing.”
