Cittadella among Europe’s teams with longest losing streaks in 2023/24 season

The Granata suffered an eight match losing run from January 20 through March 3, which saw the team drop from fourth to ninth in Serie B. It was the longest losing streak by any team in the league that season.
Compared to Europe’s top five leagues (English Premier League, French Ligue 1, German Bundesliga, Spanish La Liga and Italian Serie A) as well as their respective second divisions, Cittadella are among the teams this season who have suffered noticeable losing runs in the league.
Bundesliga side Union Berlin had the joint-longest losing streak among these leagues this season, losing nine league games in a row from September 3 through November 12. Only English Championship side Rotherham lost as many games on the bounce, where the club eventually finished bottom of the second tier.
Cittadella are joined by La Liga side Las Palmas to have a losing streak of eight games this season: the second highest in Europe’s top five leagues and second divisions. The newly-promoted Spanish side conceded 15 goals during those losses while only scoring once, finishing 16th in Spain’s top flight.
Four different teams had a stretch of seven consecutive losses this season. Sheffield United, Lorient, Metz and Kaiserslautern all lost seven league games in a row in their respective leagues. Despite this feat, Kaiserslautern reached the final of the DFB Pokal, narrowly missing out on the trophy to Bayer Leverkusen.
