Desogus signs for Cittadella from Cagliari
On June 29, 2024 by Jake IovineCittadella announced the signing of midfielder Jacopo Desogus from Cagliari on Friday, becoming the fourth newcomer of the summer.
The Cagliari homegrown midfielder will be joining the Granata on a free transfer on a three-year contract, with a “buy-back” clause for the Sardinian club.
“[Desogus] is an attacking player that I strongly wanted and I think he can play in multiple roles in the offense such as attacking midfielder, second striker and even attacking midfielder,” Cittadella sporting director Stefano Marchetti said. “He can play in many positions a bit like [Federico] Chiesa or in our case like [Enrico] Baldini.”
Desogus spent the second part of the 2023/24 season on loan at Serie C side Gubbio, making 13 appearances for the club. The 21-year-old midfielder scored a goal and tallied an assist on his debut for the club in a 4-0 win against Pescara.
Another young midfielder joins Cittadella following the arrivals of Simone Tronchin and Francesco D’Alessio earlier this month.
“I like this moment in the transfer market because young people are arriving who are capable of marking the present and future of Cittadella,” Marchetti said.
Marchetti has also confirmed the departure of Valerio Mastrantonio, whose contract is expiring on June 30. The sporting director also confirmed the contract renewal of fullback Alessandro Salvi.
“For Mastrantonio I’m not exercising the renewal option, while Salvi will remain in the squad next season,” Marchetti said. “If the market ended today there would be too many of us, so someone will leave. We’ll see based on the situation.”
