Cittadella vs Pisa: Gorini wants to reward fans in home opener

Cittadella return to the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato for their home opener as the Granata face Pisa on Matchday 3.
The Venetian club got their first victory of the season on Saturday, defeating Brescia 0-1 at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti. Edoardo Gorini’s side will be looking to reward the Cittadella fans with a victory in the newly-renovated Tombolato stadium.
“Playing at home is always nice and stimulating,” Gorini said in his pre-match press conference. “We will do everything to give joy to the fans. I thank them for having followed us in large numbers in Brescia and also in Salerno.”
The Granata have played their first two league matches on the road as the Tombolato underwent renovations which included a new irrigation system, new lighting and a widening of the field. Cittadella have not won a home match since January 13, where Gorini’s side defeated Palermo 2-0.
“Our fans are always close to us and I hope that the enthusiasm in Brescia can make even more of them come tomorrow,” Gorini said. “They expect us on the field to have the right attitude to give the players an urge.”
Pisa defeated Cittadella the last time at the Tombolato, scoring in the 89th minute to snatch a late win. Filippo Inzaghi’s side have started this season with a draw against Spezia and a victory against Palermo.
Tuesday will be the 25th meeting between the two clubs in all competitions. Cittadella lead the all-time series against the Tuscan side with a 12-3-9 record.
The Granata will be without some defenders for Tuesday’s clash. Center back Nicola Pavan is suspended one match after receiving a red card in Brescia, while Stefano Negro is still recovering from an injury.
