Cittadella vs Cosenza: Dal Canto new era starts with relegation rivals

Newly appointed head coach Alessandro Dal Canto is ready for his first match in charge of Cittadella in an important clash on Saturday.

Dal Canto, who was appointed as head coach of the club on Monday following Edoardo Gorini’s dismissal, will lead Cittadella on Saturday afternoon against relegation rivals Cosenza. The Granata sit 18th in Serie B after eight games.

“This week went very well from all points of view,” Dal Canto said in his prematch press conference. “The results need to be fixed, but it was a desire even before my arrival, I’m not the one who discovers this hot water. I’m excited, as always. I await this challenge without anxiety, but with curiosity.”

Cittadella suffered its worst loss in club history before the international break, losing 6-1 against Sassuolo, which costed Gorini his job. The Granata occupy the relegation zone going into the weekend with a 2-1-5 record, sitting two points ahead of Cosenza.

I Lupi are looking for their first road victory of the season after a shaky start. Cosenza has not won its previous three matches, scoring one goal and conceding four.

“This will be a game that will live on a razor’s edge,” Dal Canto said. “The details and the key moments will make the difference. We need to be good in all aspects to bring those moments to our side, but we will need to be strong above all on a temperamental level.”

Saturday will be the first game under Dal Canto, who will be looking to break Cittadella’s unwanted home record of 11 games without a win. The Granata have not won at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato since a 2-0 win against Palermo on Jan. 13. Cittadella hopes that Dal Canto’s new ideas will help the Granata bring a long-awaited victory to their home fans.

“This team has a strong identity, I certainly won’t be the one to take it away,” Dal Canto said. “I like to work on concepts and not on mechanisms. Like I said, I am happy with what I have found and will try to continue, adjusting things according to what I like in relation to the characteristics of the players.”
