Five Cittadella games to watch this season
On August 4, 2025 by Jake IovineCittadella will play in Serie C for the first time in a decade this season. Placed in Girone A alongside promotion favorites Vicenza and the newly formed Union Brescia, the Granata are looking to rebound from their relegation from Serie B three months ago.
Under newly appointed coach and club icon Manuel Iori, Cittadella opens its season against Virtus Verona on August 24, followed by the home opener against Alcione Milano five days later.
Twenty clubs are spread across the northern region of Italy, with 38 league games scheduled from August to April. The group winner will earn direct promotion to Serie B, while 2nd through 10th will compete in a playoff tournament among the two other groups.
Here are five key games to watch this season for Cittadella.
MATCHDAY 4: Cittadella – Vicenza
Two clubs with the same ambition: promotion to Serie B. Just four games into the new season, Cittadella will already be facing a promotion rival.
Vicenza missed out on direct promotion last season to Padova, who claimed first place by three points. The season prior, they narrowly fell in the promotion playoff final against Carrarese. The Lane will be led by Fabio Gallo, who led Virtus Entella to Serie B promotion last season in Girone B.
September’s Monday night clash will see the two promotion candidates face each other with their respective new coaches. A result for either side could prove decisive as head-to-head is the first tiebreaker in the league.
The two clubs will meet again in the reverse fixture at the Stadio Romeo Menti in January. Both games promise to provide key moments that could shape each other’s seasons.
MATCHDAY 13: Dolomiti Bellunesi vs Cittadella
Matchday 13 in November will be the first competitive meeting between newly promoted Dolomiti Bellunesi and Cittadella.
The Rosaverdi, who were founded in 2021 from a three-way merger, will be participating in their first Serie C campaign after winning their Serie D group last year.
Despite the promotion, Dolomiti will play its opening matches in Fontanafredda at the Stadio Omero Tognon. It’s likely the place where Cittadella will face the Rosaverdi as construction at the Stadio Zugni Tauro continues.
Despite the venue challenges, Matchday 13 could provide a memorable game for both sides as they meet for the very first time.
MATCHDAY 19: Giana Erminio vs Cittadella
Capping off the first leg of fixtures of the 2025/26 season sees Cittadella travel to Gorgonzola to face Giana Erminio.
The Coppa Italia Serie C finalists will host the Granata a few days before Christmas, where the league will pause for two weeks during the festive period.
Despite ultimately being relegated, Cittadella were one of the best road teams in Serie B last season. The Venetians collected 24 road points with a 7-3-9 record away from home: the fifth best in the league.
Should Iori’s men continue their strong form on their travels, a positive result on Matchday 19 could give Cittadella the perfect Christmas gift and set the stage for a potential promotion charge in the new year.
MATCHDAY 34: Cittadella vs Lecco
The month of March will see Cittadella play six league games: the most out of any month during its campaign. After a home clash with Lecco on Matchday 34, Iori’s side will only have four regular season games remaining.
March could be a key month for the club. Four of the Granata‘s six games in March are home games, giving the perfect opportunity to potentially start a run of form that could carry into the home stretch.
Lecco will be the final opponent in the month of March. A common matchup from the 1990’s, both sides are expected to be challenging for playoff positions. A win for either team at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato could give them a massive advantage in the standings going into the final month of the season.
MATCHDAY 35: Union Brescia vs Cittadella
One week following the Lecco match is a trip west to Lombardy. Against the newly formed Union Brescia, the Leonessa are expected to put up a fight in the first season of the new era.
Matchday 35 is another match that could determine the final standings. With head-to-head being the first tiebreaker in Serie C, both sides will know the significance of the game at that stage of the season.
In front of a passionate fanbase at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti, this game on Easter weekend could be a huge moment for either club.
