Gorini speaks ahead of Sassuolo cup match

Cittadella head coach Edoardo Gorini spoke to the media ahead of the Granata‘s Coppa Italia Round of 64 match against Sassuolo.

Gorini’s side will open their 2024/25 campaign in Reggio Emilia on Friday afternoon against Sassuolo, who were recently relegated from Serie A. Friday will be the first meeting between the two clubs in a decade.

Here were some key comments made by Gorini on the eve of Sassuolo – Cittadella.

Match objectives:

“The objective is always to win the first match. It’s not easy because there’s still lots of curiosity that I’ve seen in the preseason retreat. We are playing one of the favorites for Serie B but we have the team that can win.”

On the keys to win:

“Attitude is always fundamental. Even if you just put that, you are already at a good level.”

On formation and squad updates:

“Who will start? I’m still evaluating because we still have some injuries, there’s some players that are more fit to play than others. Whoever plays tomorrow will be in the better physical condition. I’ll put the team on the field with the best probability of winning and advancing to the next round.”

“Tronchin and Frare are both disqualified, Carriero and Pandolfi will also not be available. Frare is still recovering, we thought this was the chance to get him back but he still had problems this week.”
